TOLEDO, OH – Exams are a very crucial part of our educational journey. Exams often determine the students academic progress throughout the term or semester, which is why it’s important to take them seriously and to make time to study. Exams can be a challenge for many students, but finding a way to study that fits you right aids in your preparation.

As SUA students prepare for exams, students can take advantage of a variety of options to feel fully prepared. Things like the Wellness Room and The Learning Commons become more important as exams approach in March. The TLC is always open and the Wellness Room opens the week before exams. It’s open before school, during seminar and after school. More ways you can get help are by emailing or meeting up with teachers. The teachers here truly care about your success, and they are often willing to take a moment out of their schedule to meet with you in private to discuss any questions you may have. Don't forget to ask about quiet seminars. Near exams, several teachers host these.

Students are typically found in the TLC. For many people, using flashcards is the most efficient method of studying–whether it's a set of study cards on Quizlet or physical flashcards. It's among the most favored and helpful study strategies. For some, it works best to go over or rewrite their notes entirely. To find out what you know and don't know, it may also be helpful to highlight, reread and actively write.

The most common time for burnouts and tiredness is during exam season. A lot of students give up because they don't know how to deal with these situations. This is a stressful, overwhelming and demanding time of year. To manage, try taking mental breaks, getting enough sleep, taking breaks to eat and drink, avoiding caffeine and remembering to take care of yourself. If you're the type of person who needs to be active during times like these, you might find that stretching, yoga, meditation or even taking a walk may be beneficial to you.

“Don’t feel like you have to handle everything alone,” said Courtney Hollister, one of the counselors at Saint Ursula Academy.

Right now is the time where students feel like they have to deal with everything themselves. Teachers, counselors and other staff members are always available to assist.

This exam season, don't forget to take some time to evaluate, assess and grow from your mistakes.
