The Power Of The Notification: PowerSchool

By Mya Watson ‘24

As a student in high school, the PowerSchool app holds a lot of power over your emotions. The notifications of grade changes can either be good or bad depending on the content and frequency.

Powerschool's main purpose is to help students track their grades and assignments. Having the app can potentially motivate the student to stay focused and organized. On the other hand, the app could possibly cause a student to be stressed or anxious.

“Sometimes I turn off my Powerschool notifications during the week to reduce a little bit of stress I may be feeling,” said Senior Sydney Williams.

While turning off these notifications may be a way for Williams to reduce stress, it could also be a gateway for other students to be more stressed or worried because they are not being notified of these grade changes.

Powerschool notifications can influence a student's behavior and mindset by providing real-time updates on grades, assignments, and other important information. They can motivate students to prioritize their tasks, and take proactive steps to improve their academic performance.

The live updated notifications provided by PowerSchool can give students the opportunity to seek help or clarification from their teachers if needed, giving each student a sense of accountability and engagement with their education.

Overall, the impact of the app varies from student to student.

“I like it better when teachers wait until after the weekend to put in grades,” said Senior Faith Tall.

A number of other students relate to this statement. They claim that if a grade is put in right before the weekend, it affects their mood for the rest of the weekend.

“At the end of every school year I delete powerschool, it gives me a feeling of relief,” said Williams.
