Choosing the Path of an Arrow
By Sheridan Johnson ‘24
Arrow for a Day and Visitations are days that are designed for prospective students. Each student who takes part in Arrow for a Day experiences a day that is specifically personalized for each girl. Visitations provide a broad look at SUA while providing high energy. Throughout both of these experiences, the classes that are shown to each student are accustomed to their interests.
“Arrow for a Day makes the day personalized for each girl and makes them feel seen,” said Pfeifer.
Mrs. Rita Hayes, the Director of Admissions and Marketing Department, and Mrs. Jane Pfeifer, the Admissions Assistant and Written Communications Specialist, work hard to market towards potential students.
Coming to SUA is a big step for the girls and their families. Not only does SUA want students to feel welcomed but also the parents.
“First impressions are important for the girls and their parents. That is why we always have ambassadors making parents feel welcomed,” says Hayes.
With receiving 130 new girls this year Hayes and Pfeifer have to keep up with the trends and present a variety of topics to potential students. Social media has such a huge impact on the marketing strategy for SUA and is a great way to share the school’s tagline.
“You choose the path, we light the way,” said Hayes and Pfeifer which is SUA marketing tagline.
The two of them agree that the best way to market to potential students is having them visit SUA and asking current students for ideas. Mrs. Hayes says that she will have some new ideas and is looking forward to letting the eighth graders vote on them.
“Seeing the girls when they first come into the school and then seeing how they change, you get to see the full spectrum,” said Hayes.
After doing for years – this is Hayes' tenth school year and Pfeifer’s seventh school year – they love seeing girls change through the years. When girls start in the Junior Academy and stay through high school they become different people.
“Hearing stories from parents about seeing how excited their daughters are and seeing the light inside of her is very fulfilling,” said Pfeifer.
