TOLEDO, OH - The Saint Ursula Academy Spirit Squad is holding multiple fundraisers aimed at raising money for a school mascot costume.
Ms. Courtney Hollister, a SUA counselor and the lead facilitator of Spirit Squad, shared how she feels that introducing a school mascot will be a fun way to spark school spirit within the student body.
“It’s a great way to improve school spirit and have them at pep rallies and visitations,” she said.
One of the primary challenges in getting a school mascot is the cost. Currently, the fundraising goal is simply based on an estimate. Ms. Hollister shared how she has spoken with a mascot company to discuss the potential expenses.
“I talked with a mascot company and they were thinking 7 to 8,000 dollars,” said Ms. Hollister.
Currently the specifics of what the mascot will be are still undecided. Ms. Hollister shared her interests in seeing ideas from the students for what a possible SUA mascot could look like.
“I would love to open it up to the students and have a design contest,” Ms. Hollister said.
This design contest would be an opportunity for students to get creative and submit their ideas for SUA’s mascot.
The Spirit Squad recently held The Lucky Charms fundraiser, where students could send St. Patrick’s-themed candy grams to their peers for one dollar a piece. This marked the first year SUA has ever held a Lucky Charms Fundraiser, and it is something that will definitely continue in the future.
Spirit Squad is also planning more upcoming fundraisers. Ms. Hollister shared her plans to hold a pickleball tournament to raise more money for the mascot.

The tournament will be held on March 29 at 10:00 am in the upstairs gymnasium at SUA. All students are invited to participate with their friends.
Snacks will be provided at the event. To be involved, students will pay an entrance fee of 15 dollars to be in the tournament, and all proceeds will go towards the mascot. Sign-up will be available until March 28.
