TOLEDO, OH - The spring sports pep rally was held at St. Ursula Academy in the Field House on Friday, March 21.

The pep rally began with each spring sports team being introduced by running through a spirit tunnel.

This year, the pep rally took on an Easter theme due to it taking place so close to the holiday. The activities that took place at the pep rally were a bunny hop relay race, a chubby bunny competition, and an egg hunt followed by an egg and spoon race.

Celebrating the spring sports athletes and the upcoming sports season was the focus of this pep rally. Ms. Courtney Hollister, an SUA Counselor and Spirit Squad moderator, shared how the goal of the pep rally was to make the athletes feel appreciated.

“It’s hopefully nice for them to be recognized and be able to kind of share their sport and be recognized for what they do,” said Ms. Hollister.

When it comes to planning a pep rally such as this one, members of the Spirit Squad work together. The Emcee’s for this pep rally included Sara Olson ‘25, Madison Repass ‘25 and Veronica Amaya ‘25.

As an emcee, they play a key role in the school pep rallies, completing tasks such as brainstorming activity ideas, creating a script and hosting the pep rally. Not only is it their job to plan the pep rally, but it is also their job to bring up the energy in the gym and encourage students to participate.

“You have to have energy, and you also just have to know how to problem-solve really quickly [when things go off script],” said Repass.

Olson expressed how her favorite part of being an MC is the opportunity to be more involved in the school community.

“I love to be involved in things, so this is just another way to be involved in the school and Spirit Squad,” Olson shared.

The pep rally was a great display of the hard work the Spirit Squad and emcees put into planning pep rallies in order to muster up school spirit and build excitement for the spring sports seasons.
