TOLEDO, OH. - The Saint Ursula Academy Swimming and Diving team recently competed in the OHSAA district tournament on Saturday, Feb. 15, held at Bowling Green State University.
The SUA team placed third overall, along with several significant individual finishes.
The SUA relay team, featuring Kendall Freeworth, Elle Lesage, Claire Harrison and Mia Harms finished third in the 200-meter medley relay event.
Harms ‘27 had an outstanding performance, finishing first in the 50-meter freestyle event and third in the 100-meter freestyle event. She was SUA’s sole swimmer to advance to the OHSAA swimming state tournament, as she placed in the top three in both her individual events.
“I was just worried in general if I was even gonna make it, but I was really happy,” Harms shared about qualifying for states.

Although she competed at states last season, this year feels different for her.
“Last year I had a relay, this year it’s just a totally different feeling because it’s just me,” said Harms.
Harms expressed her excitement about making it to the state tournament individually. However, it is a change from her previous experience of going with her relay team.
“It’s, like, really exciting, but also I just wish that I had someone else with me,” she said.
The district tournament was also the final high school meet for the seniors on the team, which includes Kendall Freeworth, Brynn Walsh and Kat Ivansco.
Brynn Walsh reflected on her last competition, saying it felt “bittersweet.” Among the many things she will miss about being a part of the SUA swim team, she highlighted the joy of swimming alongside her sister, Brylee Walsh ‘27.
“I’m going to miss watching my sister swim, and being at the same meet as her,” said the elder Walsh.
As the SUA Swimming and Diving team reflects on their achievements at the district tournament, they look forward to cheering on Harms at states.
