SUA’s Annual Intramural Picnic

TOLEDO, OH – Each year, the student council organizes a large picnic at the end of
intramurals to celebrate as a whole school community before the school year comes to a close. The picnic also enables students to express gratitude and solidarity with one another after a day
full of competition.
As intramurals week wraps up, the student body reflects on their time as a community
throughout the year. Intramurals is a week filled with exciting events including tug-of-war,
basketball, volleyball, sidewalk chalk, decorating the hallway, baking in ace of cakes, and more!
With all of these varied activities, SUA’s students strengthen their relationships and can celebrate
together.
As Mrs. Mary Fondren-Beakas said, this picnic represents unity and the classes being
together in the SUA community. Each class is assigned a specified item or dish to partake in, which makes this entire picnic possible. Before the start of the school day on Friday, drop off your class’s appointed food,
drinks or paper products for the picnic in the South Dining Commons. There will be labeled tables set up to hold all of the different items that each class will bring in. Here’s what each class brings in:
Junior Academy: Candy
Freshmen: Fruits and vegetables
Sophomores: Drinks
Juniors: Chips
Seniors: Paper products
Student council members, Calla Bobak ‘24 and Mary Carol Kraus ‘24 described the predicted display and planning process of this all-school event.
“The planning of this event is pretty straight forward! The executive treasurer orders the pizza, and each class brings in their assigned items,” said Kraus.
When asked about how each class is assigned their respective items, Kraus said “The items assigned to each class are chosen in a student council meeting. Each student council, starting with the seniors and working the way to freshmen, pick out what they want for their class.”
“We’re expecting a big turnout of items, all the classes are pretty competitive and want to get the most points,” said Bobak.
The leftover paper products and food is “either saved for Labre, or is passed out to students passing by,” said Kraus.
Although last year's picnic was held inside due to rain and inclement weather, it returned outdoors this year.
