High School Mother-Daughter Painting Class

TOLEDO, OH – With Mother’s Day on May 12 this year, St. Ursula Academy is hosting the annual mother-daughter event to celebrate. This celebration is meant to honor the connections between a student and their mother or another significant female figure in their lives.
Although registration is now closed, the event is set to take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024 on SUA’s campus. All registered attendees should arrive a little before 3:30 p.m. and expect to be there until around 5 p.m. The fee to attend costs $15 a person, with snacks and all painting supplies provided.
In the past, this event has taken many forms, such as a bowling night for the JA, a driving scavenger hunt and dinner with a family-friendly comedy show. Last year, attendees were treated to a flower-arranging class.
The event for 2024 entails a painting session led by one of SUA’s own art teachers. The instructor, Ms. Caroline Jardine, has years of experience with painting and previously taught painting classes as part of a prior job. She explained the concept for the painting and some details about the class.
“It will be 10x10 inches with a floral design and I’ll be doing it step-by-step, like a tutorial,” said Ms. Jardine.
Ms. Jardine displayed a prototype of the design, which is in an impressionist style and includes one large flower in the center with a ring of a few smaller flowers on each side. As the marketing of the event described, the flowers are seasonally appropriate for spring. The colors of the artwork are customizable and can be changed as the attendee sees fit.
“People can change up the colors if they’d like, I’m just showing them the technique,” said Ms. Jardine.
According to Ms. Jardine, the Merici Society helps to fund and put on this event, by providing some of the snacks and materials. The refreshments and light snacks will be complementary, as they are included in the price of the ticket.
There is expected to be a high turn-out, close to 100 students including their maternal figures have registered for the class. Ms. Jardine shared that the senior class makes up the highest percentage of students signed up to attend.
