On the evening of March 13, 2024, the Saint Ursula Academy Community lost one of its brightest souls: SUA principal Nichole Flores ‘89, who passed away peacefully at home.

Since 2012, Mrs. Flores has served as the principal of SUA. She has inspired many, including Mary Werner, the President of Saint Ursula Academy.

Not only was Mrs. Flores a colleague to Mrs. Werner, but she was also a friend. “The impact of Mrs. Flores has been exponential. I was blessed to have a relationship with her that spanned professional elements,” said Mrs. Werner.

A prime example of Mrs. Werner and Mrs. Flores’s relationship was the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremonies. Due to the global pandemic, they held over 100 individual ceremonies for each graduate. “We laughed and cried at each,” said Mrs. Werner. After the day, they had a little celebration.

In the community, Mrs. Flores was a solution-oriented thinker and creative in solving problems around the school. “She was focused on the possibilities of what could be,” said Werner. Mrs. Flores was always focused on serving the students and respected what they brought to the SUA community.

Mrs. Flores will not be forgotten. She is in the hearts and minds of every student, teacher, staff member, parent, and member of the SUA Community.

“Mrs. Flores would always come after school, sit in my classroom, and talk about how she and her husband are high school sweethearts. The family was her everything,” said Mrs. María Hicks, a teacher at SUA.

When being asked to teach the Leadership Program, Mrs. Hicks didn’t think she had what it took. However, Mrs. Flores taught her to see past the surface of a person, believe in herself, and know she can do anything.

Mrs. Flores's main goal was to ensure every girl knows they have a voice and worth. That is why she pushed for the leadership program at Saint Ursula Academy.

Senior Alisyn Massamore said, “Mrs. Flores always smiled at me and knew my name. You could tell she truly cared about Saint Ursula Academy.”

At Mrs. Flores's funeral, Father Alan Zobler, the priest and cousin of Mrs. Flores said, “You have no idea how much of an impact you made.” Fr. Zobler was right. Mrs. Flores had no idea how she impacted the Saint Ursula Community.
